Step 8 - Bind the toxins

Everything you have learnt about detoxing, the food, the saunas, the baths all apply in this stage of tackling Lyme disease and coinfections. However, you might need to add some extra treatments in to the mix in order to help your body cope with what we call a herxheimer reaction. A herxheimer reaction is a short-term detoxification reaction in the body. It's an internal response to a large amount of toxins being released at the same time and your body not being able to get rid of those toxins quickly enough. It can make you feel very unwell, giving you flu like symptoms, aches and pains. These toxins come from the poisons that bacteria and parasites release when they are killed off. A lot of people then feel deterred by the worsening of their symptoms and stop the process of killing the infections. However, there are a few products out there that help bind the poisons they release and rid them from your body in a much shorter time, enabling you to function better and continue treatment. It is worth noting that you should always listen to your body. A serious and overwhelming herxheimer reaction could possibly be life threatening, so you must halt any treatment your using to kill the infections until your body recovers. All toxin binding agents must be consumed at least three hours away from any other medication or herbal protocols.

    Activated Charcoal

Activated Charcoal works by trapping toxins and chemicals in the gut preventing their absorption. Charcoal has a negative charge which causes it to attract to positively charged electrons such as toxins and gasses. Activated charcoal cannot be absorbed by the body so it’s grabs the toxins and takes them out via the digestive system.

    Lymphatic Drainage Massage.

This massage technique encourages circulation and stimulates the lymphatic system. When you have a herxheimer reaction toxins are dumped into your body all at once. This can cause a back log or even blockages in your lymphatic system. This causes the system to become slow or sluggish. A qualified Lymphatic Drainage Masseuse will be able stimulate this system and gently clear any toxic blockages that are preventing your system working efficiently. You can go on the Treatwell website to find a Lymphatic Drainage Masseuse in your area.

    Chlorella

Chlorella is a blue green algae rich in vitamins and minerals. Dr Klinghart, a world-renowned Lyme literate doctor recommends chlorella as part of his Lyme patients’ protocol because it binds to heavy metals and other toxins such as ammonia, a neurotoxin caused by Borrelia. He recommends taking it 3 times a day, 30 minutes before meals. Taking it before your meals enables it to bind to any toxins released by bile during digestion.
Whole chlorella is difficult to digest so it’s important to use cell wall cracked Chlorella like the one recommended below.
